Worcestershire Community Foundation launches Covid-19 response appeal

One of Worcestershire’s largest charitable hub has launched a county-wide appeal which will help community groups and charities overcome issues caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Worcestershire Community Foundation has unveiled the Worcestershire Covid-19 Response Appeal which will use funds to help local community projects stay afloat and keep operating, with a growing number currently at risk of closure.

The Foundation, which has awarded over £2 million to local community projects since it was formed in 2003, has unveiled the appeal by urging donations from individuals, organisations and businesses from across the county and beyond.

Funding will be available to community initiatives that are undertaking a range of work with vulnerable people, including volunteer programmes and delivering health and wellbeing programmes to help people cope during the difficult Covid-19 period.

The Foundation has a strong relationship with local voluntary, community and charitable organisations and will in the first instance be working with them to get funding out quickly to where it will make the greatest difference.

Nick Wentworth-Stanley, Chair of the Worcestershire Community Foundation said: “We understand the personal and financial impact that Covid-19 is having on communities and the problems vulnerable people are facing.

“It’s vital that local communities come together and support each other in these hard and uncertain times. The charity sector relies on donations to ensure they are helping those in need, and as a Community Foundation we want to ensure that local support continues throughout this period.”

Lucy Wells, Development Director at the Foundation added: ‘We are reaching out to local companies, corporate businesses and individuals across the county who are able to support us in taking action and helping our most vulnerable neighbours.

“We are keen to make sure that we are helping organisations receive the support that they desperately need, but to do this we need contributions from everyone in Worcestershire who is able to give at this unprecedented time.

“It’s our role to provide a voice for those who may not be able to shout very loudly themselves, but without whom whole communities would suffer immeasurably.”

Worcestershire Community Foundation’s Corvid-19 Response Appeal is being launched to coincide the National Emergencies Trust’s (NET) Coronavirus Appeal which is raising money at a national level. NET will be channelling funds to deserving causes through the UK’s 46 Community Foundations, including the Worcestershire Community Foundation.

The funds received from the National Emergencies Trust will be welcomed by local communities but will not be enough to meet needs in Worcestershire, therefore local support to build the fund is vital.
